February Events
Madrid Design Festival
1 February-31 March 2022
The fifth edition of the Madrid Design Festival includes a diverse exhibition program with prominent national and worldwide design professionals. Jane Withers, Hella Jongerius, Anna Heringer, Patricia Urquiola, and Izaskun Chinchilla are among the designers that have participated in this year’s edition. They discuss their ideas, mindset, and how they are constructing new surroundings for a long-term future. The festival will also look at the relationship between design and active aging, with proposals examining the potential of design and its contributions to creating more senior-friendly cities.

Build – From High to Low Tech | 3–5 February 2022
Porto, Portugal
Build is an annual conference that promotes new design and construction concepts that show how buildings can have a lower environmental effect. Representatives from Kengo Kuma & Associates, Gramazio Kohler Research, and Mínimo Común will be speaking at the conference. HAS (Hinterland Architecture Studio) is hosting the event, which is open to the public on-site in Porto and online via a live webcast on their website.

Modernism Week | 17–27 February 2022
Palm Springs, USA
Modernism Week is an annual festival in Palm Springs, California, with approximately 350 architecture, interior design, and design events. The 11-day festival includes architectural walks, biking and bus tours, a vehicle and trailer exhibition, talks, and parties, as well as tours of renowned residences in 30 different neighborhoods. Two talks from MAD Architects are included in this year’s talks schedule, as well as a keynote presentation by Jeanne Gang.

Nature × Humanity: Oxman Architects | 19 February–15 May 2022
San Francisco, USA
Neri Oxman, an American-Israeli architect, and her team at Oxman Architects investigate if the materials, techniques, and construction methods used in architecture are sustainable in the future in this show. Nature Humanity, a show at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, features 40 artworks and installations that question the concept that the built world must be human-centered.

Collect: International Art Fair | 23–27 February 2022
Online, London, UK
Collect, now in its 18th year, presents collectible modern craft and design at Somerset House in London and online. The exhibiting galleries were chosen by a group of experts to represent emerging and established worldwide craft artists. Collectors will be able to acquire works created within the last five years at the event. The show also collaborates with museums to acquire modern craft for their collections, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, which has sourced pieces from Collect for the past 18 years.
