She found interest in detail on smaller scales and took her inspiration from the fabulous cities she passed through.
Exclusive Interview with Elif Arslan
The designer has experienced different cultures during her years of study and she took her inspiration from the heritage and culture of the different cities. These cities have a huge impact on the design and architecture and its surprises and changes are something that she applies in her work.
Her company works with residential lots, retail, educational, and office places and she tries to employ trends within her style. She wants to maintain her concept but still be flexible enough to embrace trends and customers’ needs.
Elif shared with us that working with nurseries and kids’ rooms turns out to be a challenging, yet pleasant experience..It requires much more effort in order to meet the child’s expectations and needs. A designer needs to take into consideration the fact that the child will eventually grow up, therefore, the bedroom needs to adapt to that evolution.
When asked to describe her design style, the designer defined it by the use of bold and vivid colors, the playing with volumes, and by having unique complimentary items to the designs. Nonetheless, she tries to incorporate it with new trends. The designer informed us that she felt a change in tastes, as many of the furniture turn back to the 50’s and even 60’s architectural style.
Covid had a huge impact on her profession. People tend to pay more attention to comfort and quality because much more often do they work from home. Quality furniture and a stylish design can have significance on moods and lives. This new focus led them to have much more residential projects and customers tend to ask for more comfy and clean styles to create a relaxing environment.
Her inspiration comes from Turkish and Italian architects whose works have much attention to detail, and are utterly inspirational. She hopes to have as much attention in her own projects in a near future.
Elif Arslan ended our interview by giving some advice to future designers. She stresses that they should use their education, history, and follow master architects in design. They should work as inspirations.
