Milan finally has the pleasure to present the italian tradeshow that brings to the big stage some of the most astonishing brand and designers. On today\u2019s article we bring you four of the most exciting young talents particapting! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salone Del Mobile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the most disheartening patterns to emerge throughout the epidemic was the furniture industry\u2019s tendency to play it safe when it came to the designers they chose to collaborate with. Companies were staying with names that were proven, tested, and bankable to ensure they stayed afloat during the financial crisis due to an unwillingness to take risks. While this was understandabl, it produced a worrisom situation in which aspiring designers found it more difficult than ever to get into the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Milan set to host the Salone Del Mobile and Fuorisalone on a scale not seen in over three years, now appears to be the right time to shift the narrative. A slew of bright individuals and studios are competing alongside the major brands, upsetting the industry\u2019s existing quo. They\u2019re reimagining what it means to be a designer in the twenty-first century by pioneering new approaches to technology, materials, and interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LA-based Sam Klemick is no stranger to the design world, but she has spent the last ten years focusing on the fashion sector, creating for brands such as Paige, Rag & Bone, and Free People. When she took an evening class to learn how to turn wood on lathe in 2019, something changed. She\u2019s swiftly established herself as one of the hottest new names in furniture design, mixing her skills in woodcraft and textiles in unespected ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She creates handcrafted works using abandoned things and materials that beg to be touched thanks to their seductive, bulging forms. Klemick makes her Milan premiere at Alcova, The Garden, with an outdoor installation. She\u2019ll create an ethereal environment with draped fabrics and duvet-style cushions, inspired by dreamy films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna Maria \u00d8fstedal Eng<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Despite the fact that Norway has no shortage of outstanding designers, Anna Maria \u00d8fstedal Eng\u2019s work is in a class by itself. Her work defies the necessity for linearity in furniture with uneven, tactile, and often knobbly shapes. \u00d8fstedal Eng creates each of hr pieces by hand, typically using a chainsaw to carve wood from the woodlands near her Fjellhamar studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her power derives from the way she approaches each object as a sculpture, drawing inspiration for her organic forms from everything from rough cliffs to gnarled tree roots. Two of \u00d8fstedal Eng\u2019s aluminum designs are already produced by Ferm Living: the Morf Sculpture and the Rotben End Table. Following her participation in Milan, where she\u2019ll present her striking ash-wood Vride Bench as part of the Norwegian Presence exhibition, Matter we\u2019re likely to see a lot more of her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duyi Han<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Duyi Han, a Shanghai-based artist and designer, found fruitful ground in the virtual design realm that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. Han\u2019s work is a visual feast of both digital and real spaces and objects, exploring subjects such as cultural history, personal identity, and health. Han has a background in architecture. His talent is in his ability to transfer the same enthusiasm and inspiration that he uses in his virtual ideas to the real world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These technicolor worlds feel like a tantalizing glimpse of a soon-to-arrive future, especially now that the metaverse has arrived. Han will occupy a space in Alcova during Salone Del Mobile to present his project, Ordinance of the Subconscious Treatment. This proposal, which combines a traditional Chinese residence with components of neuroaesthetic treatment, appears to have the potential to both calm and excite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TAKT Project<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s no surprise that Satoshi Yoshiizumi worked for Nendo before establishing his Tokyo-based studio, TAKT Project, in 2013. His art has the same lively, innovative spirit as his predecessors, but with a unique twist. The studio calls itself a \u201cdesign think + do tank\u201d, implying a hands-on, multidisciplinary, and research-driven approach. It no only combines design commissions with self-initiated proejcts, but it also uses technology to overlay technology over actual items, often to dramatic effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors to Milan in 2019 may recall the project Glow Grow, in which TAKT Studio began an investigation into how LED lights might simulate ice developing in resin. Yoshiizumi\u2019s team will display Equilibrium Flower in a solo exhibition in the 5VIE district this time. It seems to be equally enthralling as it explores the possibilities of thermally hardening fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
