Philippe Starck opens up about his design perception, where the idea isn’t only to create a beautiful object. There are different types of design, and one example is cynical design, and Raymond Loew defends that what is ugly will be a bad sale. So, this means that design can be a weapon for marketing. The big challenge is in front of us – there isn’t human production outside of the “big image”. The big image is our story, our poetry, our romanticism. Our poetry is our mutation, our life.

Building The Seed Cathedral – Thomas Heatherwick
Large buildings can feel soulless and cold. While on a smaller scale, like a ceramic pot or a musical instrument, we can find materiality and soulfulness. That has influenced Thomas Heatherwick, and now he owns a studio that has a particular approach to designing buildings. The world’s first major botanical institution is in London, where they have a project where they’ve been collecting 25 per cent of all the world’s plant species. Thomas realized that seeds aren’t so common, so they had to create a project with seeds – The Seed Cathedral.

Design thinking can make a difference, and hlp create new ideas and innovations. By focusing on a design, maybe just a single product, it would be incremental and not have much impact – design became a tool of consumerism. Through a different view of design, by focusing less on the object and more on design thinking as an approach, we can see differences. Design is getting big again. And that’s happening through the use of design thinkings to new kinds of problems – global warming, education, healthcare, secutiry, clean water. Design is human-centred.

The world keeps changing, and architecture is the mirror of these changes. Architecture doesn’t just answer to need and necessity but also desires.
