This year, the iconic Puces de Saint-Ouen, the world’s largest antiques market, joins Paris Design Week. Known as the “world’s attic,” this market offers a rich array of unique and high-quality items. In collaboration with Maison&Objet, the Puces de Saint-Ouen will immerse visitors in a world where history meets modernity.
Medhy Allaouchiche, Chairman of the Marché aux Puces, highlights the growing significance of second-hand goods in contemporary lifestyles. “Good things come to those who wait! Flea markets were ahead of their time on this,” he remarks, reflecting on a recent survey showing a preference for in-person shopping over online platforms for second-hand treasures. This partnership reinforces the market’s role as a living design museum, inviting visitors to explore its vast collection of antiques and collectibles.
During the Maison&Objet fair, the Puces de Saint-Ouen will be featured in Hall 7B Unique & Eclectic under the theme “A Room with a View.” This exhibition will present a curated selection of pieces from various markets, showcasing the diversity and richness of Les Puces.
Contemporary Art at the Hôtel de la Marine
Paris Design Week extends its influence to the historic Hôtel de la Marine, where contemporary design will pay homage to this 18th-century masterpiece. Renowned designers Pierre Renart and Studio Uchronia will create bespoke artworks inspired by the building’s storied past as a royal furniture repository.
Studio Uchronia will transform the main courtyard with a vibrant canopy bed installation, blending historical elements with modern aesthetics. Pierre Renart will present a meticulously crafted hammock in the Cour de l’Intendant, utilizing hornbeam wood to echo the diamond-shaped glass roof. For the second consecutive year, graphic design will adorn the streets of Paris, turning the city into an open-air gallery. In collaboration with the Design, Fashion, and Fine Craft Office of the City of Paris and the Écrire la Ville association, various graphic artists will showcase their creativity in public spaces.
In the Marais neighborhood, the former Caserne des Minimes will host diverse graphic art installations, from Japanese sewage drain-inspired designs to vibrant, colorful graphics. British artist and designer Paul Cocksedge will transform the Renaissance setting of the Hôtel de Sully with his innovative and playful approach. Known for his spectacular installations and creative use of materials, Cocksedge will create reflective surfaces that interact with the architecture, the sky, and the visitors themselves.
Reflecting on the importance of playfulness, Cocksedge invites everyone to engage with his installation, which uses mirrors to create a dynamic interplay of reflections. Renault’s Electric Revolution at Paris Design Week
Renault will celebrate the launch of the electric Renault 5 E-Tech with an immersive pop-up experience called MAISON5. Located in a former industrial workshop, this space will showcase a vibrant mix of automotive design and lifestyle elements. From driving simulators to culinary experiences, MAISON5 offers a diverse range of activities that highlight the intersection of design and technology.
